Today Maison Margiela and Reebok announce the launch of the Club C Maison Margiela, a new sneaker to be released on March 24, 2021 as part of their ongoing collaboration. Drawing on codes evolved by creative director John Galliano, the sneaker expresses the characteristics of the French fashion house through one of the sportswear brand’s most recognizable designs.

The latest chapter in the collaboration – first launched in early 2020 – represents the most distilled take on the codes of Maison Margiela and Reebok to date. Unifying innovation with nostalgia, fashion meets functionality in a contemporary design with a timeless appeal.

The Club C Maison Margiela fuses signature features of Maison Margiela and Reebok. First launched in 1985, the Club C tennis shoe – the ‘C’ short for ‘Champion’ – has bridged the territories of sports and fashion and is one of Reebok’s most iconic silhouettes.

Maison Margiela applies a house technique, the trompe l’oeil, to the Club C Maison Margiela: constructed from a single piece of flat leather, the sneaker’s one-cut upper is printed with a scanned image of Reebok’s original Club C shoe.

Using trompe l’oeil – a deception of the eye – the effect mimics every stitch, curve and shadow of the original 3-D surface, achieving a 2-D optical illusion key to the visual language of Maison Margiela, whose work has historically blurred the lines between truth and artifice. The Club C Maison Margiela is available in white or black.
